IP Protection
Four-layer IP protection
Structural controls, not a policy document.
IP Protection
Every Shield Works engagement comes with our 4-layer IP protection model built in: physical zoning, internal segmentation, supplier isolation, and absolute client-project separation.
Why It Matters
Counterfeiting, leaked CAD files, parallel production runs, and reverse engineering remain the most cited risks for Western brands moving production to China. Shield Works was built to remove those risks structurally, not by promise. Your designs stay yours.
IP Protection Model
IP security is engineered into Shield Works at every level: physical, operational, supplier, and project.
Black-Box Workflow
The black-box workflow is how Layer 2 of the model actually runs on the floor. Information is broken into the smallest viable chunks, distributed across roles and zones, and reassembled only at the points where it has to be.
Each operator only sees and handles their assigned task. No single worker on the line ever sees the full product or holds enough information to reproduce it.
Sensitive sub-assemblies are split across separate stations and zones. Reverse engineering from inside the floor is structurally impossible, not policy-dependent.
CAD files, schematics, firmware, and tooling specs are restricted to a limited set of authorised engineers. The line never gets the full design pack.
Trust & Transparency
Western management, certified processes, and live visibility into your project. By design, not by exception.
IP Protection
Structural controls, not a policy document.
Ownership
A 100% foreign-invested enterprise (FIE) operating under Western standards of business ethics. Your contract sits with a Western-managed entity, not a third-party local factory.
Visibility
Optional secure video and live-line access into your designated production zone, so you can follow your build without travelling. The same protocols that protect the floor control who sees what.
Legal Agreements
Legally binding Non-Disclosure, Non-Use, and Non-Circumvention agreements with every employee and sub-supplier on every engagement.
Filing & Registration
Operational protection guards your IP at the floor. Formal registration in China gives you legal standing to enforce it. Through our partner Innopat, we support patent, trademark, copyright, and customs recording across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
See IP ServicesThe Comparison Buyers Actually Make
Most China manufacturing runs through sourcing agents or direct factory relationships. Both can work, until your IP is the product. Here is what changes when the facility itself is built around protection.
| Area | | Typical factory or sourcing agent |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees your full design | Only you and vetted upper management | The factory, its subcontractors, and often the agent |
| NDAs | Binding, signed with a British-owned and managed company | Signed, rarely enforceable in practice |
| Facility access | 4-layer access control with fingerprint-entry zones | Open floor, visitors and other clients walk the line |
| Sub-contracting | None undisclosed; sub-assemblies integrated in-house | Common, often undisclosed |
| Tooling ownership | Documented and recorded as yours | Frequently disputed when you leave |
| Quality sign-off | Dual-layer QC, independently verified by C2W Group | The factory marks its own homework |
| Management | 100% British-owned, Western-managed, fluent English | Local management, agent translates |
| Certification | ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 + SEDEX, independently audited | Varies, often self-declared, rarely renewed |
And when a project needs supplier comparison or sourcing beyond our own floor, that capability exists in the family: our parent company, the C2W Group, has run sourcing, auditing, and supply chain programmes across Asia since 2005.
